I recently took a trip to Seattle, Washington and it was amazing! I had such a fun time visiting the Emerald City! My favorite thing about Seattle is that there are trees everywhere! The city is painted in green and the air is so fresh. We went at the perfect time where it was in the cool 70’s. Since the season is summer, we only experienced rain one day that we were in town. My boyfriend and I initially took this trip to attend a wedding across the border in Canada. Seattle was the tail end of our trip but I truly wish we spent more time there! I’ve listed a few places that we visited and hopefully I’ll get to go back so that I can see more!
The Amazon Spheres
Seattle is the headquarters for Amazon. Kel and I walked throughout the large campus of the company (there are multiple buildings). Down the street from the campus, Amazon recently built a mini rainforest biosphere known as the Amazon Spheres. You can tour the inside from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
Pike Place Market
Pike Place Market is a wonderful place to visit in downtown Seattle. Within a neighborhood, there is a public market where you can buy food, clothes, jewelry, and many other items.
The Seattle Times
The local newspaper, The Seattle Times, has been around since 1896. It is located right next door to Amazon. I made sure to take a photo next to the iconic sign!
The Gum Wall
There is a small theatre in Pike Place market, and many years ago, the theatre would not allow patrons and visitors to chew gum inside the establishment. The Gum Wall came about because the visitors began sticking gum outside on the wall in rebellion. It is disgusting and beautiful all at the same time.
The Red Hall at The Seattle Central Library
The beautiful Central Library has ten floors and is filled with exquisite architectural design. There are multiple rooms to explore within the building. On the fourth floor there is an amazing escape known as The Red Hall. Some people say it resembles the birth canal or a scene from a movie thriller. I just think its a great place for a photo opportunity!
Space Needle
The Seattle Space Needle is probably the most famous landmark of the city. You have a chance to visit the top by riding the lightning speed elevators that move 10 miles an hour!
Union Station
I love to visit historical sites! Union Station opened May 20, 1911 and still operates as a train station. There is a train next door but the main hall now serves as offices. During the weekday, make sure to visit before 5pm… or you’ll be staring in the window like I was!
The First Starbucks
It was nice getting to visit the very first Starbucks coffee shop. If you want to visit, make sure you arrive early as it can be crowded with lines extending out the door.
Overall, my visit to Seattle was unforgettable. I still have tons of things I want to see when I go back. I just love a city that doesn’t disappoint!
