I’ve officially been at my new job a full week and it has been enjoyable. I truly am happy with the new atmosphere (especially my office) and the people! The idea of leaving a job that you have been at for many years can be scary at first, but I have a few words of encouragement for those wanting to take the leap!
First: You are responsible for your own happiness. At the end of the day you have to deal with YOU. In other words, make decisions that will allow you to rest easy at night. For a while I struggled with the worry of always thinking about what will happen to others if I made certain decisions. I’m finally understanding that it is my responsibility to take care of my mental, physical, and spiritual health before I help with anyone else!
Know your worth. Many of my friends who were encouraging in the pursuit of my new job always reminded me not to sell myself short.
Dress the part. If you are selected to interview, dress in something that makes you feel confident. Also, make sure that your outfit is comfortable as well. You want your outfit to be the LAST thing on your mind in an interview, not the first! Also, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to look nice. The dress I am wearing is from Calvin Klein and I found it at Ross Dress for Less for $30! The next day I saw the same dress at Macy’s for $90!
Finally, find a friend or someone you confide in to encourage you along your journey. Luckily, I’ve had several people who have been a HUGE encouragement to me and have provided advice that I will forever cherish!
If you are looking to make a career move or ANY lifestyle decision, I really hope this post was helpful!
