Why did it take me so long to visit Utah? It's amazing!
I spent a weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah, and my first time was nothing short of amazing! My goal is to visit everywhere in the world at least once and I was so glad when I found the perfect opportunity to visit this place. If you read my last post about the San Antonio Missions, you know that I really enjoy traveling to historical cities. Honestly, I really didn’t know what to expect. I thought that Utah would be similar to visiting Colorado, but instead I found that it offers its own flavor. Now, I’m truly a fan of this grand city and I want to return! I didn’t have enough time to do everything that Salt Lake City has to offer, so a trip back is a MUST! Below I’m sharing my favorite stops during my two day stay.
The Sheraton Hotel
I really enjoyed waking up to this view every morning. I would definitely recommend staying at the Sheraton Salt Lake City. My favorite amenities include, the hotel restaurant, the gift shop, and a Starbucks inside. I was told that Barack Obama chose this hotel when visiting Utah and now I see why! The hotel staff also made my trip memorable.
Temple Square
Temple Square is a beautiful place where the Mormon’s worship. It is also home to the Family History Library, the whole reason that I will return to Utah. I need to spend more time there! If you go, make sure to visit Temple Square at night.
Gilgal Sculpture Garden
Visiting the Gilgal Sculpture Garden was inspiring. My advice if you decide to visit is to know that the entrance is on 500 street! The GPS will take you elsewhere! Also, the garden is located in the middle of a neighborhood so at first I thought I would end up in someone’s backyard. I was about to give up on my search and I finally found it!
Vivant Smart Home Arena
The Utah Jazz play in the Vivant Smart Home Arena. They didn’t have a game on the weekend that I went to Utah but visiting still offered a great photo opportunity. There is a sculpture of Karl Malone out front.
Utah State Capitol
The Utah State Capitol is incredibly beautiful! You’ll find art all around you. When I visited, several people were already there for photos inside. Also, the acoustics are amazing and we encountered a choir inside as well!
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir
Listening to the world renown Mormon Tabernacle Choir is a heavenly experience! It is free to listen in on Sunday morning. The only exception is that silence is required as they broadcast live during the performance. Their show was one of my favorite experiences in Salt Lake City.
Trolley Square
Trolley Square is a fun place to visit because you can eat and shop there! There is also a museum but it is only open a few days out of the week.
The Historical Home of Brigham Young
If you visit Salt Lake City, the historical home of Brigham Young should be the first stop on your visit. The missionaries offer a free tour that provides insight on the city’s beginnings.
The Rose Establishment
The Rose Establishment is a wonderful cafe in Salt Lake City. There are so many yummy treats here and the place is so Instagram worthy!
Cathedral of The Madeleine
There are no words to explain how beautiful The Cathedral of the Madeleine is….. All I can say is that I sat for almost two hours just admiring all of the gorgeous art inside!
Ensign Peak
Climbing Ensign Peak was inspiring, invigorating, and fun! It is a short hike but very steep. Once you make it to the top, you can see all of Salt Lake City! There are incredible views. I was lucky enough to make the hike on Saturday before several inches of snow fell on Sunday.
The people of Utah are friendly, the city is beautiful, and the history is inspiring. I can’t wait to return and visit a ski resort, watch a Jazz game, hang out in Olympic Park, and spend more time in the Family History Library! Thank you Utah, I’ll be back!
